Issues
For the past four years, families in Staten Island, Dyker Heights, and Bay Ridge have watched costs rise while opportunities to get ahead slip further out of reach. Over the past decade, we’ve faced everything from devastating storms to a global pandemic. And for much longer than that, we’ve endured some of the longest commute times in the country—just to make ends meet.
These challenges are real. Mohan understands them because he’s lived them. As your Council Member, you’ll never have to wonder where he stands—he stands with you.

Economy and Affordability
We all know that there are too many families in Council District 50 being squeezed by rising costs and stagnant wages. That’s why he’s committed to lowering property taxes and making our neighborhoods more affordable for working and middle-class families. He’ll fight to attract new businesses, invest in infrastructure, and create good-paying, union jobs right here at home. He’ll push for local laws that cut red tape and ease burdens on our small businesses, so they can grow, thrive, and continue to serve our neighborhoods.
Public Safety
Mohan believes that keeping our neighborhoods safe starts with investing in the people who protect us. That’s why he supports adding a few thousand new officers to the NYPD and building a modern, expanded police academy to better train the next generation of public safety professionals. But safety isn’t just about numbers—it’s about trust and teamwork. Mohan will work to strengthen partnerships between the NYPD, community organizations, non-profits, and neighborhood watch groups to create a unified and effective response to the everyday challenges our communities face. Public safety should be smart, responsive, and rooted in collaboration.

Traffic and Congestion
Council District 50 has been left behind when it comes to transit solutions—and now, politicians are trying to hit us with congestion pricing, another unfair tax that proves how out of touch they are with working families. Mohan will fight to stop it. Instead of punishing commuters, he’ll push for real investments in infrastructure, starting with the creation of an East Shore Ferry connecting Staten Island to Manhattan and Brooklyn. He’ll also work to improve Staten Island Rapid Transit by expanding bus service, upgrading bus stops, and ensuring seamless connections between the Staten Island Railway, the St. George Ferry Terminal, and the new East Shore Ferry. These smart investments will reduce traffic, shorten commute times, and finally deliver the transit relief Staten Islanders deserve.
Union Jobs
With the backing of a leading NYS labor union, Mohan believes that union jobs are the backbone of a strong middle class—and it’s time we invest in pathways that lead directly to them. He supports expanding Career and Technical Education (CTE) schools that prepare students for real careers, not just diplomas, with a clear route to union membership and long-term stability. Mohan will host union-only job fairs, giving everyone a chance to learn how a union career can provide dignity, security, and a future. He’ll fight to promote union labor on all publicly funded projects that deliver economic or social benefits—because taxpayer dollars should uplift working families. In a borough and a city built by labor, Mohan will always set the standard high—and never go below it. He’ll stand in solidarity with unions, every step of the way.

Community Improvements
Mohan believes strong communities are built through collaboration, support, and smart planning. He’ll invest in youth and senior services by expanding literacy programs, funding adult recreation centers, and creating pathways to opportunity through youth employment and vocational training—helping young people build stable, productive futures. Mohan also understands the importance of preserving the character of our neighborhoods, which is why he opposes the Mayor Adam’s City of Yes program and any unchecked overdevelopment of housing projects that threaten to overwhelm local resources and disrupt the balance that makes our communities great places to live.
Healthcare and Quality of Life
Council District 50, and Staten Island especially, has long been underserved when it comes to healthcare—and the COVID-19 pandemic and Hurricane Sandy made that painfully clear. With far fewer hospital beds than any place in the city, our borough was left vulnerable in times of crisis. Mohan has been a consistent voice in community meetings calling for the creation of a new public hospital on Staten Island, and he’s committed to making that a reality. He also supports expanding rehabilitation services and increasing the number of beds available for those battling opioid addiction, ensuring they have a real path to recovery.

In addition, Mohan believes that access to well-maintained parks and green spaces is essential to both physical and mental health. That’s why he’ll fight to improve park facilities, so every family has the opportunity to enjoy safe, healthy, and vibrant community spaces.
